Love Bugs by Emily is an Etsy Shop owned by Emily Juda.   This cute and fairly new lil shop sells nursing covers, apparel and accessories for infants and toddlers.  Emily began making these adorable things when she lost her teaching job in 2007 due to budget cuts.  My heart goes out to her because I was a teacher for 8 years and my whole family teaches.  My brother and sister in law, who teach in CA, have been threatened losing their jobs every year.  It is so sad.  Emily reinvented herself in this sad time of losing her job.  She says: "I was invited to a baby shower.  In an effort to save money, I made outfits and accessories for my gifts.  Soon several guests from the shower began to contact me and asked me to make gifts for them to give to others. Little by little my business grew."  Emily is a stay at home mom and she has a 2 year old boy.  She has a degree in Art Education and she taught art and photography for 7 years before she gave birth.  She says, "When I was about ten years old, my mom taught me how to make “ hair scrunchies” (the trend back then) on her sewing machine. From there a love of sewing was born.  Throughout the years I made doll clothes, altered clothing I already had, and eventually made outfits" 

I asked her why she picked the name Love Bugs for her shop and she replied, "When I was filing for a D.B.A., I needed to come up with a name. My best friend called her daughter “love bug”, and I decided it would be the name of my shop."  Her inspirations for her designs come from her son, children's books, songs, nature, and a desire to make affordable clothing that is stylish and sustainable. 

Since many of my readers are moms, I thought I would ask Emily how she juggles work and being a mom.  She said, "It has become more difficult as my son has gotten older. I work while he sleeps and have many nights when I am working well past midnight.  A little sleep deprivation is worth being able to stay home with my son all day and work from home in the evenings."  I totally agree!  I always say creativity consumes me....this is why I am an insomniac.  :)

Emily says she likes being on Etsy because it is "an awesome place for budding artists to gain recognition and set up a shop.  It is also an amazing resource!"  She says Etsy is very easy to use.  Emily is also a fellow Etsy Kids Team member and she says, "I joined Etsy Kids Team and have found amazing shops and shop owners who have gone above and beyond to help out "budding artists"."

As always, and true to form, I asked Emily an off the cuff question.  I asked who in History she would most like to meet and why and she replied, "I would have to say Jackie- O! I adore her flawless style, her calm voice and her intelligence! She spoke so many languages and was able to "keep up" with the Kennedy's! She was so much more than a first lady; she has been an icon for several generations. I admire how she picked up the pieces after her husbands assisination and raised her children out of the lime light, with class, and without "drama".  I would love to pick her brain about life in the White house and how it really was at that time."
